17 VAS Students Awarded 2 million USD in Scholarships for Study Abroad

A solid foundation of knowledge with internationally recognized certifications, accompanied by diverse  extracurricular activities and community programmes, help VAS’s students become competent when applying for high value scholarships from prestigious universities. 

17 students have achieved high value scholarships for study abroad

By the end of the 2018–19 academic year, Vietnam Australia International School (VAS) had 17 students receive scholarships worth a total value of more than 2 million USD to enter univeristies and high schools in foreign nations. Many students have simultaneously won three to five scholarships from prestigious universities. Dinh Nam Anh, a pride student from class 12H3A , Hoang Van Thu campus, has achieved a scholarship worth $294,000 USD/year for 4 years studying at the University of Chicago, Illinois, USA.

A solid foundation of academic knowledge and qualifications from the Cambridge Programme help VAS’s students access many countries with advanced educational systems such as the US, UK, Australia, Canada, Switzerland and Japan.

Impressive results from the Cambridge Academic Programme

At the end of the 2018-19 school year, VAS had more than 1,000 students from grades 1 to 8 (occupying 25% of the total number of students) achieve 3 and 4 Gold points - the absolute points for English, Math, Science and ICT (Information and Communication Technology). Although 2018 was the very first year VAS had students sitting A Level exam (at the end of grade 12), 100% of them earned grades from C - A* for Math, Physics and Computer Science.

In the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) exam (at the end of 10th grade), VAS students exceeded the world average for the range of scores from A*-C in all subjects, notably Mathematics, which was 20% above world average and Global Perspectives which was 11 % above world average. This school year, VAS also had 46% of students from Grades 11 and 12 who took part in the IELTS exam achieved IELTS 6.5 and above, of which 29 students obtained IELST 7.0, 14 students achieved IELTS 7.5 and 5 students got IELTS from 8.0 to 8.5.

More than 400 student awards from city, national and international levels

In the MOET Programme, VAS’s students also achieved more than 400 awards from the city level, national level and international level at the International Math, English Champion, English Olympic, ViOlympic for Maths and Physics on Internet, TOEFL Junior, Science Research and other talent competitions. VAS had 10 students from grade 9 and 12 receive the city level awards in the "Practical Science Knowledge" competition, and 4 students were given the city level awards out of 20 topics participating in the “Science Research Projects” competition organized by Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training.

Focus on nurturing humanistic values and encouraging community responsibility

Besides the academic activities and talent development programmes, VAS also focuses on personal responsibility and core values to help students understand about various aspects of society, enouraging them to take more initiative in the community through the projects, "Kindness Corner", "VAS Community Programme" and many charity activities for each campus. Notably, the project "Light up Your Knowledge" comprised of students from grade 10, Hoang Van Thu campus has spread and created positive effects in the community. These students have designed and assembled more than 100 solar lamps for ethnic students in Dak Lak province.

At the Year End Ceremony of the 2018-19 school year, Mr. Marcel van Miert - Executive Chairman of VAS shared: “We are living increasingly in a world that changes every day; where technology, robots and artificial intelligence are gradually replacing and/or changing human labour in numerous areas. How can our students compete with high technology products for accuracy, independence, and productivity when working? The key to integrating into the future world lies in the sound foundation of knowledge and skills but especially the humanistic values and social skills, with which students are constantly equipped and nurtured every day at VAS!"
