VAS honors the young public speakers
After nearly two months of competition, the finale of the VAS English Speaking Contest 2017 was held on the 31st March. Some wonderful talents were discovered through the competition. The program was organized by VAS with the participation of the British Council and the Cambridge International Examinations CIE.
The VAS English Speaking Contest 2017 is organized to help the students communicate confidently in English, and develop critical thinking and public speaking skills. This year's competition was extended to Kindergarten and Primary students with such fun activities as storytelling through videos and short presentations. Many of the students were very excited to participate in the competition where they could embody the characters from the stories.
In the speaking contest, the 3rd, 4th and 5th graders surprised the judges and the audiences with their lively, confident, and persuasive speeches, such as those by Dao Hieu Phong, class 5.6, Ba Thang Hai Campus and Phung Nguyen Thien Ngan, class 3.3, Sunrise Campus. The students of grade 6-8 also blew the judges’ minds with logical arguments and witty responsive answers.
In addition to expanding the number of participants, there was also a new format for the 9th -12th graders to join in the Debating Contest. Debating the topic "Foreign investment in Vietnam," teams from the 9th grade of Hoang Van Thu and Ba Thang Hai Campuses, gave excellent performances at the Final Round with their convincing arguments in English, and multidimensional understanding of the topic.
As a final result, the first prizes went to Sunrise campus - The Saigon Science Show (Kindergarten), Hoang Van Thu Campus - Sleeping Beauty (grade 1-2), Tran Cao Van Campus - Bare Foot Boy (grade 3-5), Nguyen Claire Ai Chau, class 8.8, Ba Thang Hai Campus (Grade 6-8) and class 9H5, Hoang Van Thu Campus (Grade 9-12).
