Active thinking, borderless creativity

Though it is feared that at primary school level children are too young to use this method in their study, the mind maps by students at the age of 6 and 7 surprised their teachers and parents a great deal.

Not only does this method help children understand the lessons and know how to make notes, but it also help them search for information, generalize knowledge of the lessons, and draw diagram of thinking by themselves, with freedom to use colors and images that suite their own aesthetic preferences. As a result, this innovative method enables them to understand and remember the lessons better, present their mind map to the class, and promote their talents and personalities.

"Cach Mang Thang Tam Campus is currently having students establish mind maps in such subjects as Vietnamese language, essay writing, Mathematics, Biology, Science, History and Geography. Favorable learning conditions, ideal class sizes, student-centered learning, qualified teachers and support from parents are all great advantages for the application of this method for students at Vietnam Australia International School to succeed," said Pham Thi Huong, Academic Advisor at Cach Mang Thang Tam Campus.

“I have applied this approach to essay writing. Instead of outlining what they will write about, students are free to brainstorm ideas via mind maps. The results exceeded expectations. Students are now able to write very fluently and creatively," said Nguyen Thi Y Van, literature teacher at Cach Mang Thang Tam Campus.

Mind mapping is being implemented effectively at all campuses in the school system. Here are some great mind maps by primary school students for you to enjoy:
