A training program of mindmapping in management and teaching

According to scientific research, the left hemisphere is responsible for language processing, abstract thinking, writing, calculating, sorting, categorizing, memorizing words and perceiving time, while the right hemisphere is responsible for overall image processing, spatial concepts, differentiating shapes, musical intuition, ability to imitate and so on. Although the hemispheres function separately, they are reciprocal in operations. Currently, people are recording information by characters, lines and numbers in a certain sequence. The conventional way of recording information does not help us see the issue holistically.

In fact, language learning at an early age, then focus on reading, writing, calculation, interpretation and logical thinking, etc. make the left hemisphere relatively more active than the right hemisphere in intellectual development. Balancing the development of both hemispheres is one of the important principles to help the child’s intelligences grow comprehensively. In order to do that, it is necessary to change the method of teaching and learning, involving both hemispheres in acquiring and processing knowledge.

Accordingly, Vietnam Australia International School has decided to implement this new method of teaching and making notes as from the next school year to help students attain that balance.

At the training workshop, Dr. Tran Dinh Chau and Dang Thuy Thu introduced both general and specific knowledge in teaching, managing and inspiring students to learn better. By using images, lines, colors and texts, not only does mind-mapping help students know how to explore, expand and systemize a topic or knowledge, but it also develops the ability to write effectively and creatively, which develops their thinking ability in accordance with the way they map their mind.

For teachers, the mind-mapping is useful in teaching new knowledge, systemizing and reinforcing knowledge after each lesson, education management and work planning. Once mind-mapping is applied, the whole plan from targets, directions and measures, etc. will show up in a holistic way and its implementation process can be monitored conveniently and modified flexibly.
