Experiential education – practice living skills for children through VAS summer trips to the “Dragon Farm”

Fishing & and catch the ducks while blindfolded: Being challenged to catch fishes in the mud and ducks running on the field; students had to practice quick eye exercise and improved their reflexes.

Ziplining through the river, passing the shaking bridge, ball catching on the bridge, pulling-ups, tug of war, jumping bag: These activities challenged students to maximize their physical power, flexibility, persistency for them to improve health, teamwork and the nerves of steel to overcome future challenges.

Rice planting/sowing, potatoes digging, and vegetable watering: Our students played the role of farmers - planting rice by themselves in the mud, digging and boiling potatoes, and learning about the vegetables. These activities have helped students understand, love, and appreciate natural products and the farmers’ effort in producing food. The farming activities have also allowed students to learn more about the essential role of vegetables in daily meals and encouraged them to eat more vegetables every day,

Molding clay, painting, flower planting, and cake baking: These activities support students in developing traditional spirit, keeping national cultures, and practicing creativity and flexibility.

After this trip, the children have somewhat understood more about farming, harvest valuable lessons about the importance of farming for our lives. The activities in the trips also help children to develop communication skills, the ability to adapt to the new environment, and connect with the nature after a long time affected by the pandemic. VAS hopes the experience and pieces of knowledge from the trips this summer will be helpful for the students in the upcoming school year.
