Rewarding students at their houses, VAS educates children about the flexibility and adaptability to every circumstance.
If students cannot go to school…
“It is supposed that at this time we must be busy preparing for the year-end ceremony of our academic year. You should have been accompanied on the stage of honor by parents and relatives to celebrate the accomplishments of an academic year. The teachers and I should have been able to shake your hands and send you the greatest compliments and warmest congratulations…
But we can't! Covid has turned many things upside down and the only thing we can do right now is to flexibly change ourselves to respond to all situations in life.” – shared by Mr. Marcel van Miert – Executive Chairman of VAS.
Instead of rewarding all students at their respective campuses, the school decided to "bring" the year-end ceremony to every door of more than 8,000 students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 across its whole system. Thousands of gifts and certificates have been prepared quickly, and more than 200 school buses travel around the city every day despite the unfavorable weather of Saigon. And thousands of joys and smiles were recorded…
This meaningful journey has received the warm support and welcome of VAS parents from all 7 campuses. Mr. Duong Thanh Nghia, who has two children studying at Ba Thang Hai mega campus, shared: “Thank you, Vietnam Australia International School, for not hesitating about long distances to bring unexpected joy to my two kids! It is a truly strong message that “if students can’t go to school, the school will come to them”. Hopefully, the pandemic will be controlled next year, and students can step on the stage so that the school does not need a lot of effort and have to travel around to each family."
Also on the school's Facebook Fanpage, Ms. Vivi Wu expressed: "It's great! Although the school hasn't come to my house yet, I can’t hide my eagerness when reading this news. The school always has a way to encourage the children. A very positive message - If students can't come to school, the school will come to them."
A practical lesson about the willingness and being able to adapt
Last school year, despite some adversities due to Covid-19, VAS students still remained flexible and developed their abilities to the fullest in both studying and taking exams at school and via the internet. This year, students across the whole VAS system won 927 academic and talent awards from the competitions in district, city, national and international levels, nearly twice as high as last year (566 awards).
Up to now, twelve Grade 12 VAS students have won early scholarships at domestic and foreign universities. In particular, student Can Vu Binh Minh at Sunrise campus has successfully been accepted by 14 out of 15 universities in the US that he had applied to, including prestigious universities such as New York University, Stevens Institute of Technology, Boston University. Of which, 9 schools awarded him scholarships with a total value of more than 15 billion VND for a four-year university education.
This special year-end ceremony at VAS is also a valuable and practical lesson that VAS wants to offer students. “Once again, please remember that the knowledge you learn today may be outdated in the future, but it is your flexible attitude and your willingness to adapt, which will last a lifetime.”
At VAS, students have been well-equipped with both knowledge and skills to respond flexibly to any changes in the world. And we are pleased to see that you have done so well throughout the school year, both online and offline learning, proved by the impressive results you have achieved.” – shared by Mr. Marcel van Miert.
VAS is an international bilingual school system with more than 17 years teaching the Cambridge curriculum and the national education programme. Currently, VAS has more than 8.200 students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 at seven campuses.
The school is offering new students many promotion schemes in the upcoming school year such as scholarships, free placement test, and tuition discount of up to 5%. For further details, visit our website https://www.vas. edu.vn/ or call our hotline 0911 26 77 55.
