VAS launches "Lead your life" writing contest

Are you able to write stories? Do you have a story to tell? Do you have a message you want to send to your family, teachers, friends or your own future?

Join the "Lead your life" writing contest to receive attractive awards and the chance to become a co-author of VAS Book 2018.

VAS Book 2016 "Sowing the seed of love", co-edited by VAS and the Youth Publishing House, has become a passionate and inspirational notebook with 51 touching, sincere and simple articles, dedicated to their loved ones, by VAS students and teachers, in the midst of this hustle life. To foster beautiful writing on the beauty of life , VAS launches the writing contest "Lead your life" to keep  inspiring, motivating the students and creating opportunities for them to express themselves after the sharing of the speakers at VAS Talks 2017. The contest is also a meaningful playground to develop the writing ability and the richness in creative thinking of both the students and the teachers. The best articles will be published in VAS Book 2018!

PLAN FOR IMPLEMENTING THE WRITING CONTEST

I. OBJECTIVES:

• Maintain the inspiration and passion for the students after the sharing of stories from VAS Talk’s speakers about the topic “Lead your life”.
• Create a healthy playground to develop writing ability and creativity of the students
• Beautiful writings will be selected for the second VAS Book.

II. RULES:

1. Participants:

• All VAS students from Grade 1 to Grade 12
• All Vietnamese and foreign teachers at VAS
• Organizers and Judges are not allowed to participate

2. Topics:

LEAD YOUR LIFE / DEFINE WOMEN’S ROLE IN SOCIETY

Some contents suggested for your writing

• Portrait /image you want to become in the future
• Your life choices and the challenges you want to overcome
• The society/world you want to see in the future, with your contribution to that world
• Your beliefs about yourself, family and life
• The differences you want to pursue
• Equality, women’s role in work/life/society, etc.

3. Regulations:

• Participating form:
  • Writings in prose, poetry, or in the form of a letter, etc…. no longer than 700 words with content appropriate with the topic.
  • Writings in Vietnamese or English language
  • The writings must be original by the writers themselves. That is, they must not be copies from other sources. Also, they have not been used for any other contests, events, or publishing.
  • The writings must be clearly typed, saved in Microsoft Word file. On the left bottom of the writing, give clear information of full name, date of birth, class (for students)/ position (for teachers), and campus.

4. Participation:

• For students:
  • Academic Assitants announce each class about the Writing contest.
  • Teachers organize for the students to do in class or at home and select the best writings.
  • The campus selects and gathers the best writings and sends to the organizers (each work under 1 separate file)
    • BTH, HVT, SR, GHs Campus: 20 works/campus
    • TCV, PXL Campus: 10 works/campus
• For teachers:
  • Academic Assitants announce Vietnamese teachers about the Writing contest.
  • IPCs announce foreign teachers about the Writing contest.
  • The ratio of the works between Vietnamese and foreign teachers is 50/50. In case the foreign teachers do not ensure the quantity/quality, the campus shall balance and supplement with Vietnamese teachers’ work and vice versa.
  • Campuses select, gather best writings and send to the organizer (each work under 1 separate file)
    • BTH, HVT, SR, GHs Campus: 10 works/campus
    • TCV, PXL Campus: 5 works/campus

  5. Timeline:

• From 22/09/2017 to 16/10/2017: students and teachers submit works to campus
• From 17/10/2017 to 10/11/2017: campuses select works as required as per section 4 and send to the organizer
• 1/12/2017: The organizers select the best work for book printing and announce the winners.
• 5/2018: celebration of Book Launching and awarding the Certificate

6. Reception of participating writings:

Campuses send the gathered files to VAS Marketing Department.

 III. MARKING SCHEME – AWARDS – ROYALTIES:

1. Marking scheme:

• The organizers select the 10 best writings to grant awards
• Excellent and appropriate works shall be selected for VAS Book

2. Awards and royalties:

• 10 prizes for 10 best writings, 1,000,000 VND per prize
• Each excellent writing selected for VAS Book will receive 500,000 VND/piece in royalties
• Winning writers are each awarded 1 book and a Certificate at the Book Launching Ceremony

(*) Awards will be in cash

3. Copyright:

• Participants are to ensure honesty and not copy others’ writing. The organizer reserves the right to disqualify participants who breach this regulation.
• By joining this contest, the participants agree for the organizers the rights to use the writings to share on all VAS media, such as website, facebook, newsletter, and VAS Book… or on mass media.
