Announcement Letter regarding school closure and the leave of absence for students from February 3 to February 9, 2020
Ho Chi Minh City, February 1, 2020
ANNOUNCEMENT LETTER
Regarding school closure and the leave of absence for students
from February 3 to February 9, 2020
Dear Parents
Following the announcement letter on January 31, 2020, Vietnam Australia International School System (VAS) is taking measures to increase prevention of acute respiratory infections caused by nCoV virus (including sanitizing and disinfecting all campuses, preparing availability of medical masks, adding more hand wash, conducting body temperature checking, requesting travel reports, etc.) and we are in principle ready to reopen the school on February 3, 2020.
However, considering the complicated situation of the disease and the fact that a lot of VAS's students have travelled with family to China and other countries with many Chinese tourist and as recommended by the relevant authorities, the VAS Board of Management has decided to close the VAS schools. All students across all campuses will remain at home for a week from school from Monday, February 3 to Sunday till February 9, 2020. This decision has not been taken lightly but serves the purpose of protecting the health and safety of all students and the VAS community. We are currently aiming to reopen the school on Monday, February 10, 2020.
To ensure there is as little as possible interruption of study, from Monday, February 3, 2020, the homeroom teacher and subject teachers will be in contact and send lessons and review lessons for exams (if any) for both the MOET and Cambridge programmes through email so students can study at home during this time. All lessons in this self-learning week will be reinforced by the teachers after students return to school from February 10, 2020. The school will be taking advice on how best to make up the lost teaching time from the relevant authorities and as soon as the position becomes clear on this issue, we will duly inform you.
The school will continue to receive information on the implications of travelling to and from China or who have had family members from China returning to Vietnam from parents, students, teachers and staff. Please ensure you actively inform the school of such information. This is in addition to implementing the disease prevention measures as announced in the letter dated January 31, 2020.
Once again, we thank you for your understanding and cooperation with the school in the best interest of the students and the community!
Sincerely thank you!
Board of Management, VAS
