Summary of students achievements School year 2016-2017

A. CAMBRIDGE PROGRAMME

  • Cambridge Academic Programme (CAP) – Primary and Secondary 1

871 students, accounting for 25% of the total students from grade 1 to grade 8, have achieved the highest scores, which are three and four Golds for English, Mathematics, Science and ICT.

  • Cambridge English Programme (CEP) – Primary and Secondary 1

371 students, accounting for 38 % of the total students from grade 1 to grade 8, have achieved the highest scores, from 8.0 and above in English subject.

  • Primary Checkpoint Exams, April 2016

Although this is the first time VAS conducted the Primary Checkpoint Exam for its students, the achievements they made are truly encouraging.

There were 232 registrations for Primary Checkpoint Exams in 2016.

  • For Mathematics, 98% of the participating student population achieved average scores and above, of which 81% achieved very good and excellent scores (i.e. 4 and above based on the maximum score range of 6)
  • For Science, 87% of the participating student population achieved average scores and above, of which 49% achieved very good and excellent scores (i.e. 4 and above based on the maximum score range of 6)
  • For English, 80% of the participating student population achieved average scores and above, of which 38% achieved very good and excellent scores (i.e. 4 and above based on the maximum score range of 6). It is important to note that although VAS students studied English as a Second Language, they sat the exam in 2016 with English as the First Language. This was due to the fact that CIE had no exam paper for English as a Second Language until April 2017. The above achievements of VAS students in English as the First Language has demonstrated tremendous improvements in their English proficiency throughout the school year. In April 2017, CIE launched English as a Second Language exam paper and we strongly believe that our students will continue to improve their English scores significantly in such exams.

  • Secondary 1 Checkpoint Exams, April 2016

This was also the first year VAS conducted the Secondary 1 Checkpoint Exam for its students and what they achieved had demonstrated a breakthrough in the teaching and learning quality improvement at VAS.

There were 616 registrations for Secondary 1 Checkpoint Exams in 2016.

  • For English as a Second Language, 99% of the participating student population achieved average scores and above, of which 76% achieved very good and excellent scores (i.e. 4 and above based on the maximum score range of 6)
  • For Mathematics, 100% of the participating student population achieved average scores and above, of which 93% achieved very good and excellent scores (i.e. 4 and above based on the maximum score range of 6)
  • For Science, 99% of the participating student population achieved average scores and above, of which 74% achieved very good and excellent scores (i.e. 4 and above based on the maximum score range of 6)
