What do children gain from the Cambridge Academic Programme International (CAPI) at VAS?
62-80% of the learning time is taught in English
Compared to the National Education Programme (MOET), the Cambridge Academic Programme International provides students an early exposure to many science subjects that are highly applicable in real life which will thereby help them discover their own career passion. By delivering the CAP Int’l to secondary students, Vietnam Australia International School (VAS) aims to reduce student’s learning time; the subjects from the National Education Programme are integrated and covered under the similar subjects of the Cambridge Education Programme.
VAS is one of four international schools in HCMC (there are total 17 international schools in Vietnam) licensed by the Ministry of Education & Training to teach the the Cambridge fully integrated programme. Accordingly, students only study some subjects in the MOET programme in Vietnamese such as Literature, History, Geography... (accounting for from 38% to 20% of their schedules, decreasing respectively from grade 6 to grade 2). The remaining subjects are integrated into the Cambridge programme and are taught entirely in English. Cambridge study time accounting for 62% to 80% of the whole programme helps students develop deeply in multiple fields through 4 main subject groups: Language (English and French/ Japanese), natural sciences (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology), economic and social sciences (Global Perspectives, Economics and Business) and Technology (Computer Science and ICT).
Moreover, students studying the CAP Int’l can also learn a second foreign language right in the programme, which is either French or Japanese - an outstanding advantage for those who have mastered English skills. Meanwhile, the tuition fee at VAS is only half or two thirds of that they have to pay in other international schools delivering the same programme.
Intensive career orientation for Vietnamese students
Understanding the important role of economics and global issues in real life, especially for the young generation in a developing country, VAS has brought these following subjects into the programme for students from grade 6 to grade 12. With the Global Perspectives subject, students learn about political systems, international law, cross-country organizations to the most urgent global issues like climate change, a sustainable future or artificial intelligence. From there, students will relate the theories to reality in Vietnam context and seek possible solutions for the development of the country.
Economics and Business Studies provides students with the basic theory of micro-economics and macro-economics such as price systems, government intervention, international commerce... in addition to cultivating skills for students in data analysis and scientific research methods. Students also learn about the main activities of a business from human resource management, production operations… to advanced knowledge such as corporate finance, accounting, and project and strategic management.
Diverse lessons built through group learning projects and practical business models help them cultivate critical thinking, logical thinking and soft skills under the guidance of expat teachers.
The key to access to top universities in the world
Finishing grade 12, students take the Cambridge exam and receive the AS and A Level Certificates and MOET's high school diploma in addition to the IELTS 6.5+ and the Full License. Most universities and colleges in the UK, the US, Canada, Australia, Singapore, the Netherlands... and 17 leading universities in Vietnam have recognized and highly appreciated Cambridge AS/ A Level certificates.
With excellent English language skills, internationally-valued certificates and in-depth knowledge of skills and academia, more than 90% of VAS students are accepted and won scholarships to study abroad with a total value of up to tens of billions of Vietnamese dong from prestigious universities around the world such as University College London and King's College London in the UK, University of Chicago and Denison University in the US, or University of Sydney and University of Melbourne in Australia.
In addition to the CAP Int’l programme, VAS is offering two other study pathways, namely the Cambridge English Programme (CEP) and the Cambrige Academic Programme (CAP). Depending on the child's competency, English proficiency and family’s orientation, students can start with the CEP pathway or CAP pathway, then move on to the CAP Int’l pathway in the following school years.
