Launching VAS "Talking To The World 2016" contest

This is a new event launched by Vietnam Australia International School (VAS) for all VAS students which aims at creating a rich English speaking environment throughout the school while  motivating the students to dream and pursue their dreams as well as developing their thoughfulness and awareness of current social issues. In addition, participating in this contest is a good opportunity for the students to improve their presentation and public speaking skills, become familiar with the cine art, as well as develop their creativity and good taste in art. Through this competition, VAS also wish to enhance the cohesion among teachers, students and parents in supporting the students to make meaningful video clips!

"Talking To The World 2016" - The rules

I Participation:

  1. Who?
  • All VAS students, from Kindergarten to High School, are eligble to register.
  • Both individual work or  group work are accepted.
  • Teachers and parents are allowed to support students in acting, filming, and giving technical guidance but are not allowed to involve in the process of writing the script and/or producing the clips.
  1. The clips:

a. How to participate?

  • Each contestant makes a video clip in English in which they express their points of view and/or students’ concerns and sharing of one of the given topics. Students can record the clips under the form of Vblog or a short film.
  • All clips must be presented in the Video Clip format (* mp4)
  • The maximum length is 180 seconds per clip (3 minutes)
  • The entire clip must be in English (comments, characters’ line, text, subtitles ....)
  • The contestants’ profile(s) including their names, class, and campus must appear at the end of their clips with the maximum duration of 10 seconds.

b. Topic:

  • Dreams, aspiration of students
  • The current domestic social issues that students care about
  • The current worldwide issues that that students care about
  • National pride

c. People in charge:

  • IPC(s) of each campus will be the Project Leader(s) who collect and check if the clips are valid and submit them to the Organizing Committee.
  • How to submit the clips: Send the links along with the participants’ profiles to the Organizing Committee.
  • There is no limit on number of videos from contestants and campuses.

d. Where to submit the presentation:

After collecting, IPCs send all links to VAS Marketing Department.

  1. Duration of Contest:

- From 22/8 - 05/09/2016: Marketing, IPC & SM spread the news to students

- Phase 1 - October:

  • From 1/10 - 20/10/2016: The organizer received all 1stpresentations
  • 31/10/2016: The organizer announced the 1st prizes of the month

- Phase 2 - November:

  • From 21/10 - 15/11/2016: The organizer received all 2ndpresentations
  • 30/10/2016: The organizer announced the 2nd prizes of the month

- The Grand Prize of the contest will be announced in December and awarded at VAS Got Talent Finale stage.

II How to judge and reward:

  1. Measurement:

- Phase 1 and phase 2: Monthly Awards are selected

Basing on the number of views and likes of the clips on Youtube VAS channel. The organizer will send the links which are posted on Youtube to campus IPCs for the contestants to share their clips.

  • At each phase, the organizer will award 3 prizes for 3 clips with the most views and likes, counting to 11h of the last day of the month. (each view/ like is counted as 1 point)
  • Winning Clips must have a minimum of 500 points.

- Grand Prize :

The judges will make decision

Criteria for judging: the judges vote for the best clips based on the following criteria:

  • Content ideas
  • Ability to use English
  • Creativity in presentation

  1. The award structure:

- Monthly Awards:

  • 3 prizes/ phase
  • Each award is worth 1,000,000 VND

- Grand Prize :

  • 1 First prize: 5,000,000 VND
  • 2 Second Prizes: 3,000,000 VND/ Prize
  • 3 Third Prizes: 2,000,000 VND / Prize
  • 5 Consolation Prizes: 1,000,000 VND / Prize
  • Best campus: Gifts worth 3,000,000 VND/ Prize
  1. Copyright of the Video Clip:

- Contestants must ensure no violation of the copyrights law of the participating clips. The organizer has the right to eliminate any clips if they detect any content violating the law.

- By submitting the clips, the students agree to let the school have the full right to use the clips on any media such as websites, Facebook, news, Youtube ...
