VAS Talks 2022: When balance and happiness come from within

Speaker Nguyen Da Quyen - Founder and CEO of Lai Day Refill Station – made the definition of “well-being” more accessible to primary students through the image of five fingers representing five factors: healthy body, positive mind, the eager to learn and develop, self-control, and doing meaningful things for people. She also suggested five ways for students to develop their “well-being” through simple and memorable images: hands to connect, feet to move, eyes to observe, brain to learn and heart to love.

“Well-being could be divided into two categories to make it easier for students to access and apply in their lives: small happiness when children can do what they love (feel pleasure) and overcoming difficulties that leads to greater happiness (feel purpose).” – shared by Ms. Da Quyen.

On the other hand, Dr. Pham Thi Thuy began the session by helping students practice breathing techniques to help them relax and be more focused before starting her sharing. She discussed the relationship between happiness and success, as well as how to develop inner strength through “12 ways to increase positive energy and live happily every day”. Of which, she emphasised the first two factors which are Gratitude and Love.

For high school students, Ms. Thuy posted a question: “What do you need to do to have the inner balance and prepare yourself for an uncertain future?”. Most VASers responded by preparing a strong internal force in terms of Physical, Mental, and Intellectual Strength. From there, she encouraged each student to discover and develop their strengths and qualities such as knowledge, skills, kindness, and honesty, so that they could stand firm in the face of pressures or difficulties.

“Happiness is not that hard to find. It is right here and right now, within each of us. When we know how love and are willing to help the people in need, we are also creating a positive and happier life for ourselves.” – shared by Ms. Thuy.

Ms. Helly Tong – Founder the CEO of The Yen Concept and Co-founder of Lai Day Refill Station addressed the topic of “well-being” to VASers in grades 10-12 by sharing her own life stories and experiences. For her, the path to happiness always begins within each individual, and most importantly, we must be aware of what we are doing and strive to better them every day. She shared: “Well-being is not just about being well, but more about the awareness of our physical and mental status, and the attempt to improve it to be well-being. Without a balance between physical and mental health, it will be very difficult for us to find the ans

We believe that the talks are a good chance to help students understand the importance of health, being self-aware of their own happiness needs, the love and share with the community and building up their own development goals to live a balanced and fulfilling life every day.
