VAS prepares students for global education opportunities

Nguyen Cu An Khang - absolute score at University of Technology Sydney, Australia

Nguyen Cu An Khang is currently a freshman majoring in Information Technology and Business at University of Technology Sydney (UTS), Australia. Before enrolling, he studied at VAS for 12 years, from primary to secondary school. After nearly 2 years studying in Australia, Khang realized that Western culture is much different than his expierence in Asian countries, but a highly organized society and a modern, world-class education system present the main attractions for students from all over the world to gather in Sydney for studying.

An Khang won 2 scholarships from UTS Insearch with absolute average score for two semesters

In the past 2 years, Khang has won two scholarships from UTS Insearch with the absolute average score for both two semesters (GPA 10.0).  Having regrets about  spending most of the time studying and missing out on extracurricular activities and engaging events for students at VAS, An Khang attempted to become an active member of the school's volunteer activities and an executive board’s member of the Japanese and Australian Student Society (JASS) in Australia.

“The knowledge and study approach I had been prepared at VAS in the A-Level programme are the most important cause for my success when studying in Australia. A-Levels are part of the UK secondary education programme, but quite similar to the study programmes of other English speaking countries, such as The Higher School Certificate (HSC) of Australia. Therefore, this is a very good foundation for students wishing to continue their studies in other countries,” said An Khang.

Nghiem Phu Hai - a million-dollar boy won 10 scholarships to study in the US

In 2013, Nghiem Phu Hai, a 12th-grade VAS student from Hoang Van Thu campus has brought honor to Vietnam’s youth by demonstrating  competency and temperament with his exceptional achievements - winning scholarships from 10 universities and colleges in America at the same time. Three of these schools are in the top 100 schools in the world, including Lawrence University (ranked 59th in the world), Denison University (ranked 50th) and Bennington College. The total value of scholarships and financial support that Phu Hai had received was over 1 million USD

It is not well-known that Phu Hai used to have a hard time in 9th grade when he moved from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City to study. Having failed the Chemistry exam in the first semester, Phú Hải admitted to feeling a "loss of face" and became more timid and shy in the classroom. But it was the patience and dedication of the teachers at VAS that helped him gain back his enthusiasm for studying and achieved high scores and confidence at the end of the school year. Phu Hai admits that this has helped him a lot in building his character.

In 2018, Phu Hai graduated in Economics and Film at Denison University, USA, then moved to Canada and worked as a Software Developer at ClearRisk company in Newfoundland, Canada. His career now takes up most of the young man's time. In his spare time, Phu Hai works as a volunteer to teach children about programming and creating robots

Phu Hai's motto: "Always keep an open mind and follow what you believe in, especially in difficult times."

“Moving to Canada meant giving up my current network of colleagues and advisers in the US, said Phu Hai. “In addition, the transition from economic / financial platform to software development also took me a while to keep pace with current technologies. By setting clear goals for myself and approaching, learning from my seniors in this new field, I have made the right connections and found a job in the field that I love.
